Jan. 14, 2010

Google Open Source Engineering Director David Glazer says that registration for the Google I/O 2010 Developer Conference is now open.

This year's I/O developer symposium will take place on May 19 and 20 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Conference organisers say that, in addition to various Google products, such as App Engine, Google Web Toolkit, the Android SDK 2.1 and Chrome, the Google I/O dev conf will focus on pushing the limits of Internet applications through open source technologies.

Conference registration costs $500 but an early bird price of just $400 is available until April 16.

University students and academic faculty can register for just $100, but the discounted rate is limited and provided on a first come, first serve basis.

As 2009's Google I/O dev conf sold out even before the start of the conference, conference organisers encourage those interested in attending to register as soon as possible.

Google says that about 3,025 developers from almost 47 countries attended last year's Google I/O conference, where the company's new communication and collaboration product, Google Wave, was first previewed for open source developers.

This year's keynote address will be delivered by Google CEO Eric Schmidt along with Google Vice President of Engineering Vic Gundotra.

Keynote videos and a highlight video from Google I/O 2009 are available on YouTube.

A conference schedule and a list of confirmed sessions has also been posted to the Google I/O site.

The I/O conference is a great place for open source developers and Linux system integrators to exchange ideas, make new contacts and have a bit of fun at the same time. This year's event should attract even more people.

Google's I/O dev conf brings together thousands of developers for two days of deep technical content, focused on building the next generation of Internet, mobile and enterprise applications with Google and open web technologies such as Android, Google Chrome, Google APIs, Google Web Toolkit, App Engine and more.

This year's conference will feature about 83 sessions ranging from introductory talks to more detailed information on the nuts and bolts of a particular Google technology or product.
