Today, the Linux Foundation (LF) has announced its first summit conference for Linux end users.
The Linux Foundation End User Collaboration Summit runs from October 13-14 in New York City.
The summit is aimed at "providing Linux end users a direct connection and a real voice to the open source
community," says a spokesperson for the LF.
The annual event will offer an opportunity for "sophisticated" end users to "learn and interact with leaders
from within the Linux community, including the highest level sys admins and developers," says the non-profit
organization.
Overall, events at the summit will include:
An address by Novell CEO Ron Hovsepian, with a Q&A session with LF director Jim Zemlin.
A discussion with Paul Cormier, President, Products and Technologies at Red Hat.
Discussions between end users and key Linux maintainers including James Bottomley and Chris Wright.
A panel featuring Linux end users from financial institutions including the New York Stock Exchange.
A keynote from Anthony Williams, co-author of Wikinomics.
An address by Jon Corbet on the "Linux Weather Forecast", with a spotlight on the next two years.
A discussion about end user participation in Linux with Rishab Ghosh and Stephen O’Grady.
Jim Zemlin, LF's executive director said “the Linux community and the open source development model is
unique. End users not only give feedback on the software, but rather they’re a fundamental and very critical
part of the community, submitting security patches and developing new features themselves.”
Other Linux Foundation events include its annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summits, the Kernel Summit,
the "Linux Plumbers Conference", and the Linux Foundation Legal Summits.
The Linux Foundation End User Collaboration Summit runs October 13 and 14, 2008 at the Desmond Tutu
Center in New York City. Tickets are still available.
