April 3, 2009

Red Hat has launched its JBoss Developer Studio 2.0, a development platform that not only enhances the Eclipse-based toolset, but also adds JBoss Enterprise Application, Portal and SOA.

The application provides an integrated development platform for Internet apps, mission critical enterprise applications, integration services in a single package, all at a price point that is expected to deliver value to Red Hat customers.

Red Hat hopes that JBoss Dev Studio becomes the core component of its Portfolio Edition. It builds on Eclipse and also offers tools developers need to quickly build highly interactive applications and services using technologies like Ruby on Rails, Java EE and AJAX as part of standards-based SOA (Service Oriented Architectures).

The ability to quickly deploy enterprise applications is important for companies looking to achieve value through cost savings.

JBoss Developer Studio can help reduce the the time to market by including and supporting the portfolio of JBoss Enterprise runtimes and tools.

Craig Muzilla, v.p. of Red Hat's middleware division says "we launched JBoss Developer Studio in an effort to provide developers not only with outstanding development tools, but also with an easily accessible way to begin enterprise development projects on the exact same code that is in our supported JBoss Enterprise Middleware Platforms."

"Overall, our strategy is expected to enable Red Hat customers to make a seamless transition from development into production," added Muzilla.

Here are some of the features that JBoss Developer Studio 2.0 offers:

  • JBoss Enterprise Application Platform
  • JBoss SOA Platform
  • JBoss Enterprise Data Services Platform
  • JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform
  • JBoss Operations Network
  • OpenJDK
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Red Hat's JBoss Developer Studio, Portfolio Edition is available via subscription for use by individual developers and teams for development purposes.

Subscriptions include access to code, security patches and updates only. Developer support is not included with a JBoss Developer Studio subscription.

Developer support can be purchased separately via a Red Hat Developer subscription. Both are available for purchase online in the Red Hat Store.
